Harmony in Movement
Pilates is a mindful movement and exercise framework developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. Based on the principles of centering, concentration, control, precision, flow, and breathing, Pilates helps the mover gain awareness and mastery of optimal body movement. The Pilates equipment is designed to help you achieve harmony in movement through a progression from assistance to resistance.
Pre & Postnatal Pilates
Pilates has amazing benefits during and after pregnancy. Pilates is a movement system designed to integrate breath, mobility, and strength, making it the perfect framework for supporting your body through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Pilates will teach you to connect and coordinate your breath, deep abdominals, and pelvic floor while optimizing joint mobility and muscle flexibility.
District Pelvic Health currently offers private sessions and Pre & Post Natal Classes at their Arlington and H Street locations.
Both Pre/Post-Natal Pilates classes will be taught on the apparatus, using the springs to build strength, mobility, and stability while supporting your ever changing body. Class is appropriate for birthing people at any stage of your pregnancy! We do ask for clearance from your OB or midwife to join class.
For those postpartum, we recommend joining if you’re new in your journey returning to movement or if you feel you are having trouble connecting to your breath, your body, or your pelvic floor regardless of how long it’s been since you’ve given birth.
